Marie Murphy / 0 Comments /Ms. Sartorius, of Vienna, Virginia, has over 25 years of business experience, including almost 20 years of experience as an attorney. During her career, Ms. Sartorius has handled a variety of litigation matters while working for both large, national law firms, as well as smaller, local law firms, representing clients in both federal and state courts in Virginia, the District of Columbia, and Maryland. This background has afforded Ms. Sartorius the opportunity to gain expertise representing both employees and employers. Ms. Sartorius’ practice areas include employment matters and other civil and commercial litigation, including claims of employment discrimination, harassment, retaliation, business torts, breach of contract, misappropriation of trade secrets, business conspiracy, and negligence. Ms. Sartorius has served as lead attorney for multiple business-related matters, from initiating suit to resolution, including jury and bench trials; and counseled both employees and corporate clients in connection with employment agreements (including non-competes, severance, and confidentiality agreements).
Ms. Sartorius also has experience in the federal government, working for the Office of General Counsel (“OGC”) at the Department of Veterans Affairs (“VA”). While at the OGC, Ms. Sartorius represented the VA in connection with veterans’ claims, including ensuring compliance with VA laws and regulations; drafting and filing legal pleadings in federal appellate court; and negotiating remand offers with opposing counsel.
In addition to her legal work, Ms. Sartorius launched and managed George Mason University
Antonin Scalia Law School’s Juris Master (JM) Degree Program, a master of legal studies degree designed
for students to gain legal expertise in their current profession. Ms. Sartorius was responsible for all aspects
of the JM Degree Program, from drafting the program’s submission for approval from the State Council of
Higher Education for Virginia, to determining the JM curriculum and administration. While serving as
Director of the JM Degree Program, Ms. Sartorius also taught Introduction to U.S. Law.
Ms. Sartorius graduated from Duke University with a double major in political science and
environmental science, and participated in Duke’s FOCUS Honors Program. After spending time working
on Capitol Hill, Ms. Sartorius graduated cum laude from George Mason University in 2004.
When not practicing law, Ms. Sartorius is an active member of the Northern Virginia community, participating in multiple school parent/teacher organizations, youth sports, and volunteer organizations with her four children.
